Overview This is a locum full‑time (10PA) consultant post in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes at St George’s University Hospital.
The role involves running a busy service that receives tertiary, secondary and primary care referrals.
Responsibilities Deliver diabetes and endocrine outpatient clinics every week, including a mix of new referrals and follow‑up patients, and support the MDT paediatric diabetes clinic to meet Best Practice Tariff targets.
Attend to inpatient activity: manage day‑case endocrine and diabetes treatments in Jungle Day Ward, review acutely admitted diabetes patients, and occasionally stabilize patients electively.
Coordinate ward reviews for diabetes patients and refer endocrine or diabetes queries from PICU, NICU, general paediatrics and other specialties.
Provide out‑of‑hours support and participate in the non‑resident on‑call rota (1:5 for diabetes, 1:2 for endocrinology, 1:3 for endocrinology on a 1:5 basis), including category B on‑call payments as required.
Supervise junior medical staff, deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and contribute to exam and accreditation duties across the paediatric department.
Engage in clinical research and audit activity, participate in national and international multi‑centre studies, and develop research projects within the service.
Adhere to Trust policies and procedures, support clinical governance, and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications MBBS or equivalent, MRCPCH or equivalent.
Completed or within six months of obtaining recognised higher specialised training in general paediatrics with accredited sub‑specialty training in endocrinology and diabetes.
Experience in paediatric diabetes and tertiary‑level paediatric endocrinology.
Child safeguarding level3 certification.
Competence in audit, research and service improvement with a track record of publications.
Database management, educational and appraisal training, leadership and management skills.
GMC registration and right to reside and work in the UK.
Additional Requirements Successful candidate will undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
