Role Overview

The Team Leader will deputise for the Clinical Team Manager and work within Talking Therapies South Liverpool, supporting staff development and service delivery in a high‑pressured environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support staff development and provide line management, including PACE/annual performance reviews.
  • Hold a reduced caseload where required and deliver evidence‑based interventions to clients.
  • Be familiar with different cultural backgrounds and ages, use interpreters when necessary, and be committed to equal opportunities.
  • Develop, support and deliver training in innovative practice to staff.
  • Raise awareness of the service with colleagues from external statutory and non‑statutory organisations.
  • Takes a lead role in key areas of service development (e. g., KPIs, perinatal, long‑term health conditions, older adults, BAME/Diversity, LGBTQI+).
  • Support the development of links with Primary Care, Secondary Care, GP's, and service users, especially those in minority groups.
  • Provide line management and conduct annual performance reviews, ensuring staff receive appraisals and training in line with Trust policy.
  • Support staff and the service to achieve key performance indicator targets.
  • Contribute to leadership and team meetings and aid decision‑making at that level.
  • Support service improvement and quality of service provision.
  • Assist with complaint resolution.
  • Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhere to entrance protocols, and refer clients appropriately.
  • Ensure NICE‑approved specialist psychological treatment is implemented and that risk assessments and plans are in place.
  • Maintain records, report on activity, and keep administration procedures up to date.
  • Keep up to date with new recommendations and guidelines from the Department of Health.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and handle data in line with the Data Protection Act.
  • Attend clinical and managerial supervision, performance reviews, and relevant conferences or workshops.
  • Promote a positive image of the Trust, advocate for mental health and learning difficulties, and ensure good communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and support the implementation of Just & Learning culture.
  • Flexible working is possible; evening work is likely to be required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Level 6 and above qualification in a relevant area.
  • Appropriate registration or accreditation held.
  • Management qualification.
  • Supervision qualification.
  • Postgraduate Certificate of Education.
  • Experience of delivering psychological therapies.
  • Experience working with a wide variety of client groups across the life course and with presenting problems of varying clinical severity.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills.
  • Skills in complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention, and management.
  • Strong communication skills – oral and written, including technical information.
  • Ability to use initiative and work autonomously.
  • Ability to organise own caseload and teach other professionals, carers and clients.
  • Experience of risk assessment and management within scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of Talking Therapies and the stepped‑care model, and how culture, language, gender, ethnicity and disability shape service delivery.
  • Understanding of the principles of confidentiality, data protection and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexibly across locations within Merseycare.
  • High enthusiasm and motivation, with advanced communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, respectfulness, enthusiasm and support.
  • Knowledge of the Care Programme Approach and the principles of professional boundaries.
