Overview

Join our Ophthalmology team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Band 3 Medical Secretary.

This full‑time position (37.5 hours per week) is based at St James's University Hospital and provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to consultants and clinical teams, ensuring patients receive the best possible care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to consultants and clinical teams.
  • Assist in scheduling patient appointments and managing out‑patient flow.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Use Microsoft Office and other computerised systems; learn new software as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines.
  • Contribute to a supportive, patient‑centred environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous secretarial or administrative experience, ideally within a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage a busy, varied workload.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with patients, colleagues and external organisations.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and other computerised systems, with the ability to learn new software.
