HMP Altcourse is the busiest remand prison in the country with a capacity of 1,164 males. The Pharmacy Technician role is based primarily in the prison wings within the treatment rooms and holding clinics. It offers a dynamic and varied environment where no two days are the same.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding, patient‑centred care, listening to and acting on patient feedback to personalise care.
  • Deliver a safe and secure medicines management service, maintaining patient medical records to agreed standards.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to a high and orderly standard.
  • Administer medicines reliably and analyse cost‑effective prescribing in line with the Health in Justice medicines policy.
  • Work as a key member of a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.
  • Support professional development through internal and external learning opportunities.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level3 or above, BTEC, or equivalent.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Up‑to‑date with continual professional development (CPD).
  • Relevant post‑qualification pharmacy experience.
  • Ability to work unsupervised while following policy and procedures.
  • Experience in a hospital, community, or prison environment preferred but not essential.

Compensation

Full‑time position with an annual salary ranging from £34,428 to £41,658 per annum (FTE), depending on experience.
