Opportunity for a Catering Assistant at
St Mary's Hospital, Kettering .
We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and self‑motivated individual to join our catering team.
The role involves hands‑on cooking, meal delivery, and maintaining high hygiene standards.
Working hours
35 hours per week, Monday – Friday 07:30am – 03:00pm (30‑minute unpaid break). Shift pattern may be subject to change.
Responsibilities
- Deliver meals and provisions to wards.
- Clean kitchen areas and equipment to the highest standard.
- Prepare sandwiches, salads, desserts, and other food items for patient menus.
- Assist with daily preparation of ward trolleys and deliver to ward kitchens.
- Prepare, cook, and assemble food items using specialised catering equipment (knife skills, mixing, slicing, mandolin, steam ovens, brat pan).
- Prepare and assemble stock items and support service in the café retail outlet.
- Assist with cash handling and take telephone orders for food/beverage.
- Liaise with catering staff and volunteers to ensure timely service.
- Understand and comply with COSHH regulations and other health and safety procedures.
- Monitor and record food and equipment temperatures.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of buffets and functions.
- Complete all relevant paperwork as required by department procedure.
Qualifications
- Experience in a similar catering role or industry.
- Good cooking skills and knowledge of catering practices.
- Excellent hygiene standards and practices.
- Understanding of health and safety, including COSHH.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
