Overview The Haematology department provides a comprehensive clinical and laboratory service for patients across East Kent, operating nineteen subspecialised outpatient clinics per week across three sites and telephone consultations.
Inpatient beds are centralised at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, with outpatient and chemotherapy units at Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother, Margate, and William Harvey (Ashford).
The Kent Haemophilia and Thrombosis Centre is based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital and provides specialist Haemophilia care for patients with bleeding disorders throughout Kent and parts of East Sussex.
The specialist Haemophilia Laboratory is within the Haemophilia Centre at Kent and Canterbury Hospital.
Haematology and Haemophilia are part of the Diagnostics, Buckland and Cancer Care group.
Responsibilities Full‑time (10 PA) consultant haematologist post, substituting a retiring colleague.
Run 3 outpatient clinics per week, including 3 outpatient haemato‑oncology clinics.
Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and participate in the Haemato‑Oncology/General on‑call and ward attending rota.
Support separate on‑call rotas for Haem‑oncology/general and Haemostasis teams, and provide support on the middle‑grade on‑call rota.
Provide clinical interpretation of haematological laboratory tests and advise clinical colleagues.
Support the Haematology laboratories and participate in clinical audit, departmental governance activities, appraisal and re‑validation.
Undertake any additional duties appropriate for a consultant haematologist as required.
Qualifications Full and Specialist registration with the General Medical Council, holding a licence to practise.
UK‑trained applicants must be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by interview date.
Non‑UK‑trained applicants must show equivalence to the UK CCT by interview date (e. g., MRCP or equivalent FRCPath).
English language competency: minimum Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent) or IELTS, or graduate of a UK medical school.
Evidence of diagnosing and treating haematology‑oncology disorders.
Evidence of laboratory experience.
