We wish to appoint a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon with an interest in General Oral, Maxillofacial Surgery and Trauma, and a subspecialty interest in Skin Cancer management.
The post holder will undertake clinical commitments across the Bay at the three sites and participate in the consultant on‑call rota, including weekend morning trauma lists.
They will develop a subspecialty interest to complement the existing consultants and work closely with ENT colleagues in the MDT Head and Neck cancer service and Clinical Nurse Specialists.
Responsibilities
- Participate in a general consultant on‑call rota, including weekend morning trauma lists.
- Serve on a 1:4 consultant on‑call rota when the vacancy is filled.
- Collaborate with ENT colleagues in the MDT Head and Neck cancer service and Clinical Nurse Specialists at the Regional Head and Neck Cancer Centre.
- Provide clinical care across Furness General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and community health premises.
- Attend out‑of‑hours emergency patients and maintain good general health and physical fitness.
Qualifications
- MBCh B or equivalent BDS.
- Full registration with GMC +/- GDC.
- CCST or equivalent/Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (FRCS [OMFS]).
- Entry on Specialist register (or expected within 6–12 months).
- Research experience recognized as a medical educator and surgical prize.
- Publications, formal teaching qualification, and demonstrated teaching experience.
- Leadership qualification and experience in positions of responsibility such as editorial commitments or membership roles.
- Team working skills, computer literacy, and record of personal development.
- Resident within 10 miles / 30 minutes of Royal Lancaster Infirmary or able to travel to all units.

The post covers three main hospitals—Furness General Hospital (Barrow), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal)—as well as community facilities including Millom Hospital, GP practice, Queen Victoria Hospital, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
All hospitals provide emergency departments, critical care, and a range of planned care such as outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day‑case and inpatient surgery.
