We are seeking a skilled and reliable Pharmacy Technician to join our supportive and friendly General Practice team.
You will work alongside the practice pharmacist, GPs, nurses and administrative staff to ensure safe, accurate and efficient prescribing and medication management.
Responsibilities
- Support the practice pharmacist in maximising safe, effective and efficient prescribing systems.
- Conduct medicines reconciliation after discharge and other transfers of care, and update patient records accordingly.
- Identify patients suitable for electronic repeat dispensing (e RD) and promote online ordering.
- Provide medication reviews and patient information in formats suited to individual needs.
- Advise GPs, staff and patients on prescribing changes to improve safety, quality and cost‑effectiveness.
- Assist with the management of prescription queries, allowing the pharmacist to focus on complex requests.
- Support the training of practice medicines coordinators and other pharmacy staff.
- Maintain relevant information systems, incident reporting, prescribing data and cost‑saving metrics.
- Contribute to prescribing audits, antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets.
- Produce patient information leaflets, posters and run medicine awareness projects throughout the year.
- Ensure major MHRA alerts are acted upon within appropriate timeframes and advise on any resulting medication changes.
- Carry out other duties consistent with your skills and the priorities of the service.
Qualifications
- Professional registration with the GPh C.
- BTEC/NVQ level3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences.
- Enrollment in, or completion of, an approved training pathway such as the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH).
- Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
- Experience as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy.
