Overview This is a full‑time Obstetrician appointment with a specialist interest in high‑risk pregnancy at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

Responsibilities Provide consultant‑led obstetric care, including labour ward coverage, ante‑natal clinics, elective and emergency theatres.

Attend theatre cases to perform surgery unless a trainee is competent to perform the operation with indirect supervision.

Support obstetric colleagues with advice and surgical assistance, e. g. major obstetric haemorrhage.

Provide risk analysis and management plans for cases requiring specialist input.

Engage in clinical governance, risk management and compliance with CNST requirements within the directorate and the trust.

Lead the care of high‑risk pregnant women, including those who have experienced baby loss, multiple birth or pre‑term birth prevention, birth choices and bereavement follow‑up clinics.

Develop and standardise obstetric pathways in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Train resident doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Take senior leadership roles in the general provision of obstetric services at Basildon Hospital and MSE.

Participate in the departmental on‑call rota (1 in 14).
