We are looking for a qualified counsellor to join our bereavement team at Meadow House Hospice, Ealing. This follows a successful bid for additional funding to support our community palliative care teams. Meadow House Hospice (MHH) provides a specialist palliative care service for the residents of Ealing and Hounslow, including a 15‑bed in‑patient unit and a large community team.
Responsibilities
- Offer counselling to bereaved relatives, carers or significant others of MHH patients, sometimes including pre‑bereavement work.
- Manage own caseload.
- Support volunteer counsellors and supervise when required by the bereavement manager.
- Provide bereavement‑related consultation, training and support to the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Help facilitate group therapy work as required by the bereavement manager.
- Support service evaluation and audit.
- Actively participate within the MHH Psychological Support Team and collaborate with the wider Cancer and Palliative Care Psychology Service to establish and maintain a well‑coordinated and mutually supportive team of psychological specialists.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualification in counselling or psychotherapy at advanced diploma level or equivalent.
- Accreditation with a relevant professional body (e.g., BACP or UKCP) or in the process of acquiring it.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) and training/qualification in supervision.
- Training or qualification in family or systemic therapy.
- Experience in trauma‑informed approaches, knowledge of models and theories of grief and bereavement needs and needs assessment.
- Understanding of the impact of terminal illness and bereavement upon individuals and families.
- Understanding of the influence of race/culture (and membership of other minoritized groups) on responses to bereavement and grieving and access to support.
- Understanding of the role of bereavement care within specialist hospice care.
- Experience in bereavement care and/or palliative care.
- Experience working in an NHS or health‑care environment, and experience in hospice settings.
- Experience working with couples and families.
- Experience facilitating groups.
