Job Overview

We are looking for a full‑time Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry based at Bushey Fields Hospital Dudley.

The role is part of a well‑established Old Age Psychiatry service that provides inpatient and community care in the Black Country, covering Dudley, Stourbridge and Halesowen.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of doctors, Clinical Practice Nurses, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists.
  • Provide clinical leadership and support for both inpatient wards and community services, maintaining a Continuity of Care model.
  • Develop and implement new approaches to care, including liaison to primary care through the MCP model and an Old Age Home Treatment Team.
  • Support postgraduate psychiatric, GP and undergraduate training across local universities, including Birmingham, Grenada and Aston.
  • Ensure clinical governance, compliance with GMC registration, Disclosure and Barring Service checks, and adherence to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

Qualifications & Requirements

Applicants must hold GMC registration and be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Prior experience in elderly psychiatry and a strong commitment to multidisciplinary, person‑centred care is essential.

Experience of developing new service models and training stakeholders will be an advantage.

The service operates across four Black Country localities, with inpatient units in Walsall (Dorothy Pattison Hospital Older Adult Unit) and at the new Edward Street Hospital.

It also delivers the Older Adult Hospital at Home and In‑Reach to Care Home teams, supporting assessment, treatment and admission avoidance in the community.
