We are looking for an experienced and ambitious finance leader to join our Finance Directorate as Assistant Director of Finance – Income & Costing. This senior role will lead the Trust's income, costing and activity planning functions, providing high-quality financial insight, robust governance and accurate income reporting to support strategic decision-making.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Finance Officer, you will oversee income management, benchmarking, Patient Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS), Service Line Reporting, activity planning and income forecasting. You will work closely with clinical and operational teams to identify opportunities to improve productivity, maximise value and support sustainable, high-quality services.

You will lead on financial planning, ensuring effective alignment of activity, income and expenditure, and act as the Trust's expert on income and costing, collaborating with commissioners and key stakeholders. The role oversees monthly income reporting, forecasting and variance analysis, ensuring compliance with contractual arrangements and maintaining strong financial controls.

The role is responsible for developing costing, Patient Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS) and Service Line Reporting, providing detailed analysis of service costs and performance. Through benchmarking and financial analysis you will identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and value, supporting the Trust's Cost Improvement Programmes.

You will provide strategic leadership to the income and costing team, working with commissioners, NHS England and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with national policy and contractual requirements, and provide assurance to the Executive Team and Board on income performance, financial risks and opportunities.

You will be a CCAB-qualified accountant with significant senior NHS finance experience, strong analytical and leadership skills, and the ability to influence at senior level.

Key Qualifications and Experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the NHS National Tariff Payment System
  • Ability to analyse and interpret highly complex income, activity and costing data
  • Proven track record of managing income and costing functions
  • Experience of leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Experience of driving financial transformation programmes
  • Track record of delivering through organisational change
  • Advanced understanding of PLICS, Service Line Reporting and benchmarking methodologies
  • CCAB qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience at a senior level within a Healthcare Finance Department
  • Postgraduate degree level education or equivalent
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
