We have an exciting opportunity for a full‐time Consultant Psychiatrist to join Coral Ward, a 19‐bed acute inpatient ward at Langley Green Hospital in Crawley. This key medical and leadership role is part of the inpatient multidisciplinary team, providing high‐quality, person‐centred care to adults experiencing acute mental health difficulties.

Responsibilities

  • Providing specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment to inpatients.
  • Leading ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Acting as Responsible Clinician for detained patients under the Mental Health Act.
  • Supervising junior medical staff and contributing to teaching and training.
  • Engaging in clinical governance, quality improvement, and service development.
  • Supporting research, development, medical education or special interests.

Qualifications & Experience

  • MB BBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • MRCPsych.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register within six months of appointment.
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months.
  • Valid UK driving licence or evidence of proposed alternative.
  • Excellent knowledge of specialty and bio‐psycho‐social clinical skills, with wide medical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Wide range of specialist and sub‐specialist experience relevant to the post within NHS or comparable service.

  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
  • Strong team leadership and collaborative working ability.
  • Commitment to shared leadership and improvement.
  • Participation in continuous professional development.
  • Experience in research or service evaluation.

  • Active involvement in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.

Benefits and Remuneration

  • Recruitment and Retention payment of £45,000 structured over three years: £15,000 upon recruitment, £10,000 at 12, 24 and 36 months of service.
