Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Respiratory & Internal Medicine within Cardiff and Vale UHB.
Currently, respiratory patients at UHW are managed on a 35-bedded ward of which there are four high care beds for those patients requiring non-invasive ventilation or high flow nasal oxygen. At any one time the ward is split with one other respiratory Consultant and depending on the side of the ward covered, the successful candidate will be responsible for 17 or 18 patients.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £106,000 per annum to £154,760 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to work with the bronchiectasis team, working closely with the Lead for Non-CF Bronchiectasis in the delivery of high-quality care.
As part of the Job Plan the successful candidate will form part of the Respiratory Department\’s commitment to 7-day weekend respiratory working on a 1:8 rota. This involves a PTWR review of those patients admitted overnight at UHW to a maximum of 5, followed by a \’troubleshooting\’ review of patients on B7.
During the \’retrieval\’ month, the post holder is responsible for providing a morning post-take ward round to patients identified by the overnight team as respiratory patients. There are two clinics that the successful candidate is responsible for. The specialist nurses operate two face to face clinics and a virtual clinic. There is time per specialist nurse clinic recognised in the job plan to allow for a flexible MDT to discuss any issues that have arisen during their clinic.
Academic interests will be encouraged research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University\’s School of Medicine will be expected.
