We are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Major General Anaesthesia. The post will be based at Morriston Hospital and support general lists at the Planned Care Centre of Excellence at Neath and Port Talbot Hospital, as well as the care of medically complex urological patients in Morriston Hospital. The successful candidate will join a team of 82 Consultants responsible for the provision of anaesthetic services across the Health Board.
Key Responsibilities
- Provision of emergency and elective general anaesthesia to the population of SBUHB within the scope of practice reflected in the provisional ‘Job Plan’.
- On-call commitment to the hybrid General Rota at Morriston Hospital, including burns admissions out of hours and urgent burns surgery in‑hours on the weekend.
- Participate in the 1st and 2nd on‑call tiers in the out‑of‑hours consultant rota.
- Provide weekend cover (1 in 8) split between resident ‑in‑hours and non‑resident ‑out‑of‑hours work.
- Attend flexible in‑year sessions across all sites to support specialist interests and meet clinical need, scheduled by mutual agreement.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and contribute to service improvement.
- Teach and train post‑/undergraduate clinical staff and contribute to audit and quality improvement projects.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Registered with the GMC, licensed to practice CCT in Anaesthesia (or expected within 6 months of interview) or on the Specialist Register with GMC.
- Advanced Training Module in Major General Anaesthesia as part of CCT or equivalent experience and expertise in Major General Anaesthesia.
- Experience in anaesthesia for Burns patients.
- Further relevant degree/diploma or teaching qualification/higher qualification in medical education.
- Evidence of developing effective working relationships, working with management, and improving services.
- Demonstrated teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff.
- Experience initiating, progressing and completing audit projects.
- Effective leadership and responsibility for service delivery.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, relatives and staff.
- Knowledge of information systems and technology.
- Clinical skills across general, obstetric, and emergency anaesthesia.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and learning, with a positive attitude.
- Empathy, sensitivity, and ability to understand and involve people.
