Overview

We pride ourselves on delivering excellent care for adult patients with renal failure requiring acute and complex maintenance haemodialysis treatment. Responsibilities

• Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision, including inpatient wards and units as required.
• Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence‑based, individualised patient care.
• Assist and advise unregistered staff in the delivery of patient care.
• Maintain accurate clinical observations of the patient and act accordingly.
• Band5 nurses in possession of the renal course will have the ability to be in charge of a shift in the absence of band8 or 7.
• Organise one’s own workload ensuring the most effective use of time.
• Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
• Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures.
• Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
• Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants and students, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months of post‑registration experience in an acute or medical ward setting.
• Experience in haemodialysis.
• Willingness to undertake training within the speciality, with education and training provided through an in‑service programme supported by the Renal Education Team.
• Ability to develop teaching skills and to solve problems using initiative.
• Capacity to learn new technical skills and to develop own clinical skills.
• Competency in medication administration, including IV drug administration, or willingness and ability to undergo training.
• Basic IT skills.
• Awareness of current developments in nursing practice.
• Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct.
• Knowledge of care planning, preceptorship, reflection and clinical supervision.
