We pride ourselves on delivering excellent care for adult patients with renal failure requiring acute and complex maintenance haemodialysis treatment. This exciting opportunity offers unique dialysis, plasma exchange and filtration experience on high‑dependency patients. We are seeking an inspirational Band 5 Staff Nurse who is passionate about joining an exceptional and dynamic multidisciplinary team. You will play an integral role in maintaining and developing a centre of clinical excellence and work in an environment that meets the needs of both clients and team members.
Responsibilities
- Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision, including inpatient wards and units as required.
- Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence‑based, individualised patient care.
- Assist and advise unregistered staff in the delivery of patient care.
- Maintain accurate clinical observations of the patient and act accordingly.
- Band5 nurses in possession of the renal course will have the ability to be in charge of a shift in the absence of band8 or 7.
- Organise one’s own workload ensuring the most effective use of time.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
- Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures.
- Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
- Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants and students, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
Qualifications
- At least 6 months of post‑registration experience in an acute or medical ward setting.
- Experience in haemodialysis.
- Willingness to undertake training within the speciality, with education and training provided through an in‑service programme supported by the Renal Education Team.
- Ability to develop teaching skills and to solve problems using initiative.
- Capacity to learn new technical skills and to develop own clinical skills.
- Competency in medication administration, including IV drug administration, or willingness and ability to undergo training.
- Basic IT skills.
- Awareness of current developments in nursing practice.
- Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct.
- Knowledge of care planning, preceptorship, reflection and clinical supervision.
