Children's Emergency Department Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our team.

You will support registered nurses in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, ensuring the comfort, dignity and wellbeing of all patients at all times.

• Provide assistance and support to all team members of the multi-disciplinary team (including other Healthcare Assistant, Housekeepers etc), as directed.
• Arrange or where necessary scan/prepare notes for patient transfer.
• Prompt clinical team for patient discharge and liaise with Patient transport where appropriate.
• Organise the transfer of patients to other areas if required.
• Communicate with Nursing and Medical staff to update them on completion of tasks or where unable to complete.
• Liaise with the Registered Nurse in charge / shift coordinator and resolve issues preventing prompt patient transfer out of ED.
• Answer the telephone / greet visitors promptly in a polite and professional manner and deal with enquiries as appropriate, pass on written and verbal information as required to colleagues and patients.
• Where required ensure patients and their relatives or carers are kept informed of delays with their treatment/investigations and waiting times.
• Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising there may be a need to utilise alternative methods of communication.

Where there are barriers to understanding, arrange / access information, support and others services to aid effective communication / use of distraction & play therapy.

• Ensure children are safeguarded in line with local and national policy.
• Support main ED during periods of high acuity as needed.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is caring, reliable, and committed to making a positive difference in patients' experiences., The successful candidates will need to demonstrate a strong interest in paediatric nursing through relevant experience, study or voluntary work and a desire for developing a career in paediatric nursing and delivering compassionate, child-and family centred care., Key skills - literacy and numeric

• NVQ II In Direct Care, NVQ Level III in Direct Care
• Consider NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Direct Care
• Able to undertake: Phlebotomy, ECG , Aseptic dressings, Plaster cast application (or willing to undertake training within 6 months) Catheterisation (or willingness to undertaken training within 6 months) Venepuncture and Cannulation (or willingness to undertake training within 6 months) Blood cultures (or willingness to undertake training within 6 months, Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Can prioritise workload and make judgements in relation to workload.
• Ability to adapt to change within working situation
• Able to be flexible in relation to service demands
