St.

Peters Surgery, Carmarthen – a modern, patient-centred GP practice with a 6,850 patient list.

The practice has three partners and one salaried GP, a dedicated nursing, administrative and community team, and a pharmacist.

EMIS Web computer system is used.

The practice is an approved training practice for GP registrars and has a strong record of high patient satisfaction, QOF achievement and a focus on women’s health, providing all options of LARC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage caseload of registered and temporary patients, delivering high-standard primary care with a keen interest in women’s health.
  • Conduct face-to-face, telephone and home-based consultations, sign repeat prescriptions and handle queries and correspondence promptly.
  • Make autonomous clinical decisions, assess presenting and undiagnosed problems, screen for disease risk factors, and develop care plans in line with current practice disease-management protocols.
  • Provide counselling, health education and discharge or refer patients when appropriate.
  • Record detailed consultation notes, collect audit data and support local and national audits.
  • Prescribe in line with the practice formulary, avoiding handwritten prescriptions where possible.
  • Contribute to practice governance, quality improvement, clinical audits, QOF targets and computer-based record development.
  • Support teamwork, attend training and events, and participate in annual performance reviews.
  • Adhere to confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, equality and diversity policies.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration, MRCGP or equivalent, and capability to work on the PCT medical performer list.
  • Experience in primary care, preferably with exposure to women’s health and LARC provision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to manage a caseload of up to 6,850 patients.
  • Strong clinical audit, computer literacy and EMIS Web experience.
  • UK driving licence, enhanced CRB check and CPR certification.
  • UK work permit if required, and signatory of practice indemnity insurance.
  • Commitment to life-long learning, audit and evidence-based practice.
  • Accurate record keeping, effective communication, and adherence to confidentiality and data-protection regulations.

  • Ability to recognise own limitations and seek guidance; flexibility in scheduling and priorities.
