Overview

The Senior Clinical Trauma Fellow (STRH) in Trauma & Orthopaedics at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is a post commencing from 5 August 2026 to 2 February 2027. This post is particularly suitable for Post FRCS (Orth) trainees interested in gaining focused training in Orthopaedic-Trauma. Independent operating sessions will be available along with supervised sessions with 16 consultant Surgeons taking part in the Trauma service. This post is not recognised for training by the Royal College of Surgeons.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be based at the University Hospital of Wales and will undertake dedicated research sessions in trauma. They will also be expected to provide middle grade cover for clinical sessions and be on call for trauma along with the specialist trainees (day time only). Trauma services are provided at the University Hospital of Wales with a dedicated trauma theatre. The University Hospital of Wales is a busy trauma centre and provides tertiary referral service for spinal trauma, pelvic and acetabular trauma and complex limb trauma.

Job responsibilities

These are the current applicable pay scales; however, these may change upon implementation of the framework agreement for reform to the terms and conditions of service for resident doctors and dentists in Wales.

  • FRCS (T&O)

  • Evidence of middle grade experience within T&O
  • Evidence of completion of basic surgical training
  • Basic and Advanced Trauma courses
  • Specialist training experience leading to FRCS (Orth)
  • Evidence of previous experience in trauma surgery
