Senior Clinical Fellow in Critical Care (ST3) Echocardiography in Cardiff

Main duties of the job

• Echocardiography: The successful candidate would get protected time (average 1 day per week) over the course of the year in order to achieve the British Society of Echocardiography level 1 accreditation and to become independent in performing transthoracic echocardiography studies on critical care patients. They would have regular 1 to 1 echo lists with a BSE accredited intensivist as well as input into echo governance meetings. There is also the opportunity to develop the critical care echo service and quality improvement projects related to the service.
• Research: The successful applicant would work as part of our research team (1-2 days per week) as well as helping with clinical duties as part of the trial team (such as muscle ultrasound and bronchoscopy). They would also contribute to day to day conduct of trials, coordinate requirements for future trials and take part in safety and outcome reporting. They would be encouraged to attend funded research courses, national and international meetings and help with research education. Within their year, the appointee may be able to act as part of the local trial management group (co-Principal Investigator). They would have time to plan, set up and possibly run their own research (with support from the team) and publish their results.

Person Specification

• Qualifications: MBBS or equivalent Medical Qualification, Intercalated Degree, MSc or PhD
• Previous Experience: 18 Months full-time as Anaesthetics / Critical Care trainee (CT or equivalent level), Initial Assessment of Competency, Primary FRCA or equivalent, ALS
• Skills, Abilities and Knowledge: Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, Able to participate as key member of cardiac arrest team with advanced airway skills, Up to date with current medical practices, Ability to take appropriate clinical decisions when necessary.
• Teaching Experience: Audit, Teaching
• Attitude Aptitudes and Personal Characteristics: Motivated and efficient, Able to relate to patients, staff and medical colleagues, Flexible, caring and hardworking, Ability to work as part of a team.
• Personal Qualities: Evidence to work both alone and in a team, Committed to working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Other Requirements: Current GMC certificate with a licence to practise, Satisfactory immigration status for length of contract, Satisfactory Health Clearance, Satisfactory DBS Clearance, Ability to speak Welsh.
