An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced support worker to join the paediatric physiotherapy team working in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board based in our special schools and children centres. As part of the physiotherapy team, you will be delivering rehabilitation programmes to patients within a community or school setting and will have an important role in supporting the ordering and management of equipment across the service. The successful applicants will need to demonstrate an interest in rehabilitation. Excellent communication skills are key and it is important that you are a team player with a positive outlook, enthusiasm and ability to learn and develop new skills. Previous experience in rehabilitation in the hospital or community setting would be advantageous. A full and comprehensive training programme will be available.
Main duties of the job:
- Principally to provide a service, under the direction of a registered practitioner, to children and young people across our community and school services.
- Assist the registered practitioner in clinical and administrative duties following a specific competency-based training and development programme.
- Independently carry out routine treatment programmes to both individuals and groups which have been delegated by a registered practitioner.
- Progress within guidelines laid down by the registered practitioner.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Qualifications:
- Good general education, numeracy and literacy to at least GCSE level.
- NVQ3 level or equivalent.
- Evidence of further education e.g. relevant NVQs, sport science degree.
- Agored Diploma in Physiotherapy support.
Experience:
- Healthcare work.
- Dealing with people both individually or in groups.
- Worked within a rehabilitation setting.
- Previous Physiotherapy support worker or Therapy technician experience.
- NHS experience.
- Experience in class taking.
Skills:
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of people.
- Good organisational skills.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to work alone.
- Basic digital technology skills.
- Measuring and application of walking aids.
- Ability to speak Welsh.
Special knowledge:
- A basic awareness of rehabilitation and the role of Physiotherapy.
- Knowledge of the organisation.
- Knowledge of disability issues.
- Flexible in approach to role.
- Adaptable to change.
- Self-motivated.
- Demonstrates initiative.
Other:
- Ability to work across sites.
- Able to travel, in a timely manner to meet the requirements of the job; this may include cross site working or various locations, carrying sensitive information and bulky equipment (if applicable to role).
