To assist and support the Head of Employee Health and Wellbeing Services as part of a multidisciplinary team in the co-ordination, provision and delivery of an effective high-quality Occupational Health service, providing specialist advice and clinical services to the managers and staff of Cardiff and Vale (CAV) University Health Board / Cwm Taf Morgannwg (CTM) University Health Board. Primarily this post will meet the needs of the Health Board; however, it may also cover a wide range of clients from both public and private sectors.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post holder will operate within the collaborative working model which encompasses both CAV and CTM University Health Boards with a requirement to work across all Occupational Health sites where required.
  • Providing a service to external organisations as directed.
  • Working directly with clients to provide a comprehensive Occupational Health Service.
  • Undertaking all aspects of line management in relation to the Occupational Health nursing team as part of the collaborative model.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Post basic qualification at either diploma or degree level in Occupational Health
  • Evidence of relevant ongoing professional development

Experience:

  • Occupational Health nursing or direct transferrable skills
  • Case management of complex sickness absence
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Experience of planning an OH campaign, e.g. health surveillance, flu planning
  • Assessment of health risks in the workplace
  • Experience of health surveillance
  • Change management
  • Health promotion
  • Helipad fitness screening/HGV medicals

Skills:

  • General management & leadership skills
  • Wide range of practical skills (Spirometry, venepuncture, audiometry, vaccination)
  • Willingness to extend role in line with NMC Scope of Professional Practice
  • Able to work under own initiative, prioritise own workload
  • Self-motivated and capable of working to strict deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate proactive approach to health care initiatives
  • Knowledge of the wider NHS & OH role
  • Use of OPAS or Equivalent OH Database
  • Knowledge of Nurse Led Occupational Health services
  • Budgetary and Financial Management
  • Participation in Clinical Audit
