Position Overview
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Diagnostic Neuroradiology based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff.
The appointee will provide added support for an increasing workload and will deliver a professional and integral service as part of a dynamic and skilled team.
The appointment is due to expansion in service needs and to continue to provide excellence across subspecialities.
The post holder will share in the responsibilities for delivering general and specialist training and medical education at postgraduate and undergraduate levels within the Health Board and Cardiff University.
Responsibilities
- Respond to urgent clinical queries and emergencies.
- Share and report plain film studies.
- Supervise and train radiology trainees at UHW and Llandough sites.
- Supervise and teach radiographers and sonographers at both locations.
- Participate in the 1 in 11 on‑call rota for neuroradiology within Cardiff and Vale UHB.
- Engage in research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine.
- Support continuous professional development and contribute to clinical audit activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Specialist Registrar or Specialist Register holder with CCT/CESR(CP) within six months of interview, or equivalent FRCR.
- Formal training in diagnostic clinical radiology.
- Minimum 12 months specialist training in neuroradiology.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working.
- Demonstrable communication, clinical governance, and audit participation skills.
- Evidence of continued medical education and proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation.
- Salary and Contract
The basic salary range for this post is £114,099 per annum to £166,585 per annum. Applicants will be offered an excellent Consultant contract for Wales.

- Working Hours and Flexibility
