An exciting opportunity has come up for a band 7 BSE qualified cardiac physiologist in the Critical Care/Research Unit, UHW. This post is a secondment for two years and is funded through the VPAG (Voluntary Scheme for Branded Medicines Pricing, Access and Growth) scheme administered by Health Care Research Wales (HCRW).
The successful candidate will join the existing band 8a cardiac physiologist (team lead) undertaking echocardiography within critical care. The role will involve working closely with the clinical staff and will also involve teaching and training.
This role is part of a wider point of care ultrasound team which we hope to develop operating from within critical care. As such it may involve acutely ill patients in other areas of the hospital such as cardiac critical care, coronary care, stroke ward or the emergency department.
The aim is to develop a wider point of care ultrasound team for acutely ill patients that will involve other team members whose skills have been attained from backgrounds in radiography or as a clinical scientist. There will be opportunities for the post holder to develop these other new skills, attend training courses and conferences.
As the post is funded through the VPAG scheme there is a necessity to undertake echocardiograms for research studies, prioritising commercial opportunities. As an advanced independent practitioner the post-holder will provide a high level of expertise and assistance in the specialist area of Echocardiography producing clinical reports that are used in the treatment and diagnosis of heart disease.
This will be both in the acute setting of the Critical Care unit as well as within the research unit, for the provision of detailed echocardiography for clinical trials.
You will provide training and education to own and other healthcare staff, and as a qualified assessor undertake the supervision, training and assessment of clinical trainees. You will have the opportunity to learn/maintain new skills, with protected time for your own training and development, for example ACHD within cardiology.
