Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward‑thinking Senior Cardiac Physiologist to join the Cardiology Department at Barts Health NHS Trust.
The role will be based primarily at St Bartholomew's Hospital, with cross‑site working across the Trust as required.
This vacancy is recruiting for three positions: one permanent full‑time role, one fixed‑term 12‑month full‑time role and one fixed‑term 12‑month part‑time (22.5 hours) role (the fixed‑term posts are for maternity cover).
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the day‑to‑day delivery of cardiac investigations and procedures, including cardiac catheter laboratory procedures, cardiac rhythm management pathways, device follow‑up clinics and a range of non‑invasive diagnostic tests.
They will also contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and the training and supervision of junior staff and trainees.
The applicant must be competent in non‑invasive cardiac investigations and experienced within a cardiac catheter laboratory environment, with knowledge of pacemaker, ICD and CRT follow‑up.
Candidates working towards independent practice in device therapies and BHRS accreditation are encouraged to apply.
Employees appointed to this role will be subject to Agenda for Change terms and conditions of service, including provisions for on‑call duties and designated rest periods.
Qualifications
- BSc Cardiac Science or equivalent
- BHRS/IBHRE accreditation (working towards, in part or completed)
- Immediate Life Support
- Experience across a broad range of cardiac diagnostic and intervention procedures
- Experience in a healthcare environment, working alongside clinical and managerial staff
- Experience in device implant and follow‑up
- Experience in training people
- Ability to perform a range of diagnostic tests and provide factual reports with minimum supervision
- Knowledge of catheter lab procedures
- Knowledge of brady‑pacemaker implant and follow‑up, complex devices (CRT/ICD) implant/optimisation/follow‑up
- Knowledge of implantable loop recorder implant, follow‑up and pathways
- Knowledge of ECG procedures, physiologist‑led exercise stress testing
- Basic EP knowledge
- High level of medical terminology knowledge
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to produce work quickly and accurately to a high standard
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to cope with a heavy workload
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload and meet deadlines
- Well‑developed interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with and provide advice to clinical staff and managers
- Experience with diagnostic equipment, platforms and databases
- Ability to resolve problems calmly and methodically
- Ability to exercise independent judgement
- Computer literate – proficient use of Microsoft Office applications
- Willingness to learn new skills and undertake personal development
- Reliable, polite and helpful
- Punctual and an effective timekeeper
- Willing to work at other sites across the Trust as required
