  • We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and proactive

Assistant Practice Manager to join our friendly, well‑established primary care team.

This is a 7‑month maternity cover role (potential to extend), beginning mid‑to‑late October, offering an excellent opportunity to further develop leadership and operational management skills within a supportive and forward‑thinking practice.

We serve a diverse community of approximately 10,000 patients and work with a multidisciplinary team of GPs, nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, healthcare assistants, medical administrators, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and collaborate with the current Assistant Practice Manager to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations and a seamless maternity handover.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of patient services and operational delivery.
  • Assist with workforce and HR support, performance management, appraisal writing, staff development, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Produce agendas and minutes for meetings and support the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and report operational performance data, claims and reporting.
  • Support clinical systems (EMIS and/or Docman) and related IT tasks.
  • Handle estates, facilities, health & safety governance and compliance activities.
  • Coordinate service campaigns and other additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in primary care or healthcare management.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic thinking; able to motivate, train and develop staff.
  • Experience in workforce planning for NHS/Primary Care and multidisciplinary team leadership.
  • Experience in performance management, including appraisal writing, staff development and disciplinary procedures.
  • Relevant health and safety experience.
  • High proficiency in IT, including generic systems and experience with EMIS and/or Docman preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, empathy and the ability to work under pressure.
  • High integrity, loyalty and a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Disciplined with a DBS check (required).
