Job Overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Community Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to join the East Staffordshire Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT) based in Burton on Trent. The role provides clinical leadership to the team within a collective leadership structure and offers support and supervision to Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Non‑Medical Prescribers. You will supervise a trainee attached to the team, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to postgraduate and undergraduate education for junior doctors and medical students from Keele Medical School.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership to the IMHT and supervise a trainee (subject to trainee availability).
  • Ensure, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, regular effective review of patients in the clinical pathway through individual assessments, follow‑up appointments, risk assessments, safeguarding needs and MDT meetings.
  • Act as Responsible Clinician for service users in the pathway subject to Community Treatment Order (CTO) where applicable.
  • Deliver evidence‑based, recovery‑focused care and be prepared to provide cross‑cover (emergency and prospective) for other Consultant Psychiatrist colleagues by mutual agreement.
  • Communicate with all key partners, including service users, carers and General Practitioners, in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Work within the requirements of service contracts and comply with nationally agreed quality standards.
  • Support the implementation and running of the functionalised model, ensuring that patients requiring inpatient care, crisis or home treatment are referred to the appropriate pathway.

Qualifications

  • Primary Medical Degree and CCT or equivalent in General Adult Psychiatry, or be within 6 months of achieving full GMC Registration (including Licence to Practice) or be eligible for licence to practice if coming from overseas.
  • Approved Clinician (AC) status or eligibility to obtain within 3 months of appointment.
  • Experience at Consultant level and experience setting up a new service.
  • Ability to provide leadership and vision in a changing environment, including awareness of lean methodology.
  • Strong background in Clinical Leadership.
