Qualifications
- Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree
- Health Professions Council - License to Practice
- Registered member of RCSLT
- Evidence of successful completion of short courses related to client group
- Relevant postgraduate experience in specialist area, including work with client group
Experience & Skills
- Well established knowledge of assessment tools for specialist group
- Established knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
- Effective ability to prioritise a large caseload and goal setting
- Communication and relationship skills: excellent interpersonal skills (observation, listening, empathy), verbal, non‑verbal and written communication including explaining, negotiating, motivating and training
- Ability to work as an integral member of SLT and multi‑professional teams, building relationships with patients/carers and other staff
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and respond to distressed or anxious people
- Planning, prioritising and organising own workload, daily tasks and long‑term strategic planning, despite interruptions and changing priorities
- Planning and organising the work of Assistant SLT and students
- Decision making within own work role guided by broad policies and guidelines, supported by team leader/clinical lead and multi‑professional team
- Highly developed auditory discrimination, perceptual and transcription skills, interpreting multisensory information
- Computer proficiency: keyboard use and relevant computer programmes
- Travel to areas within and beyond the trust if required; car driver with access to car insured for business use
Responsibilities
- Provide a high‑quality Speech and Language Therapy service, developing knowledge and skills in the management of people with communication and swallowing difficulties within the facility
- Act as an autonomous HCPC registered team member providing a high standard of assessment, treatment and management of patients, some of whom may have acute, complex and/or chronic presentations
- Work as part of a dedicated interdisciplinary team
