Overview
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic full‑time Specialty Doctor (Psychiatry) to join our Older Adult Inpatient team at Bracken Ward, Airedale Centre for Mental Health, Keighley. This permanent, full‑time post offers dedicated support, flexible working arrangements and protected time for CPD.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Consultant Psychiatrist and multidisciplinary team to provide high‑quality care for older adults (65+) with acute and complex mental health needs.
- Carry out comprehensive psychiatric and physical health assessments, conduct regular ward reviews and develop patient‑centred care plans.
- Participate in daily handovers (PIPPA), multidisciplinary ward reviews and team meetings; provide clinical advice and support to colleagues.
- Chair weekly physical health reviews, organise investigations and liaise with other specialties.
- Lead clinical governance and service development, including audit, research and quality improvement projects.
- Manage Mental Health Act processes: prepare reports, attend tribunals and work within the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
- Provide clinical leadership in the absence of the Consultant Psychiatrist, ensuring continuity of care.
- Supervise and offer clinical supervision to junior staff (FY1/2) and core trainees.
Qualifications & Experience
- Full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council.
- Minimum 4 years of full‑time postgraduate training in psychiatry, including at least 2 years in a relevant specialty training programme or fixed‑term specialty trainee.
- At least 3–4 years of experience in psychiatry, preferably in Old Age or General Adult Psychiatry.
- Demonstrated experience in service development, reconfiguration and clinical audit.
- Knowledge of NHS funding arrangements, recent developments and the provision of multidisciplinary services.
- Strong understanding of the bio‑psycho‑social model, research appraisal and application to clinical practice.
- Effective communication and leadership skills, with sensitivity to the needs of diverse ethnic, minority and gender groups.
- Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) and participation in quality improvement.
