We are looking to recruit an experienced manager to support the practice manager in our growing general practice.

The role focuses on day‑to‑day practice functionality, staff motivation and performance, process optimisation, and compliance with health, safety and GDPR standards.

Role Overview

25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 1pm – 6pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the practice manager in daily operations and ensure staff meet their primary responsibilities and patients receive appropriate care.
  • Lead human resources activities, including motivation, performance reviews, policy implementation, and alignment with legislation.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety, GDPR, and other relevant regulations.
  • Line manage staff where appropriate, ensuring a robust appraisal system and HR support.
  • Develop, implement, and embed a practice training programme for all clinical and administrative staff, liaising with external agencies and maintaining training records.
  • Collaborate with the care coordinator manager on IT issues, maintenance, reporting, auditing, and contractual matters.
  • Ensure the clinical session structure is effective, meets patient needs, and complies with contractual requirements.
  • Support the practice clinical governance framework and prepare reports for QOF, enhanced services, QPP, and other reporting requirements.
  • Assist in planning, reviewing and implementing change under the direction of the practice manager, including accessibility and safety improvements.
  • Lead the practice audit programme and maintain audit records.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in a management role, preferably within GP practice or NHS primary care.
  • Strong knowledge of HR legislation, contracts, and workforce planning.
  • Demonstrated performance management skills, including appraisal writing, staff development and disciplinary procedures.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing projects at a strategic level.
  • ANC experience with health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to produce agendas and minutes for meetings.
  • Excellent communication, IT, and leadership skills.
  • Strategic thinker with time‑management, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • High integrity, empathy, and resilience in sensitive situations.
  • Good education, literacy and numeracy skills; leadership or management qualification; HR qualification preferred.

Bedford Street Surgery operates across two sites – Bletchley and a branch in Furzton, Milton King County.

The practice serves over 16,400 patients and offers a multidisciplinary team that includes paramedics, prescribing nurse practitioners, respiratory nurses, a diabetes nurse, health‑care assistants, practice nurses, a pharmacist, GP consultants, secretaries, care navigators and care coordinators.

The team works closely within the South West Network to provide integrated support services, including mental health, dietitian, social prescriber and health & wellbeing coaching.
