Job Overview
Assistant Buyer – 12‑month fixed‑term contract. You will play a pivotal role in the strategic expansion of our Materials Management Service across the Trust.

Key Responsibilities
- Handle customer and supplier queries and provide advice on procurement processes.
- Gather pricing information via phone and email and process orders using the Oracle system.
- Maintain stock levels at Kendray Hospital, ensuring accurate storage, rotation, and cleanliness.
- Lead the materials‑management order process within the Barnsley Business Delivery Unit, meeting timescales and demand.
- Process purchase orders to achieve best value, consulting senior staff on complex issues.
- Follow all local work instructions, NHS and Trust regulations, and support the procurement strategy.
- Assist receipt and distribution functions and manage stock‑replenishment systems.
- Prepare reports, spreadsheets and KPI data for managers and budget holders.
- Assist with contract performance reviews, sourcing new suppliers and markets, and compliance projects.
- Provide training and guidance to internal users on procurement procedures.
- Required Qualifications and Experience
- European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent IT competency.
- Experience with the NHS Supply Chain materials‑management computer system.
- Experience in procurement, including drafting specifications and tender/quotation documents.
- Understanding of contract law and ordering systems.
- Knowledge of computerised order processing and stock‑replenishment systems.
- Experience with Oracle or similar requisition processing tools.
