Job Overview
Wytham ward is an elective surgical department based at the Churchill Hospital, covering three clinical specialties: Colorectal, Breast and Gynae‑Oncology.
As a senior nursing assistant you will lead the nursing support team, train new starters and apprentices, support colleagues through their Care Certificate, and drive forward change and maintenance of ward standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the nursing support team and train new starters and apprentices.
- Support colleagues through their Care Certificate and drive change and maintenance of ward standards.
- Provide personal care, manual handling and monitor the clinical condition of medical and surgical patients.
- Work closely with registered nurses to ensure the delivery of top level care.
- Support and work closely with registered practitioners to deliver a high standard of care to patients, families and carers in a safe and supportive environment without the need for direct supervision.
- Develop and maintain services provided to patients and contribute to the safe, efficient and smooth running of the ward/clinical area or department.
- Maintain dignity and privacy of all patients and respect their right to confidentiality.
- Complete and maintain a portfolio of clinical competencies and/or Care Certificate as required.
- Review progress with the Manager at regular intervals through the appraisal process.
- Understand and act within your own level of responsibility, scope of practice and accountability.
Qualifications and Experience
- Evidence of Level 2 Apprenticeship or Diploma in a health‑related subject.
