Overview
Assistant Practitioner for Point of Care Testing (POCT) works as part of a multidisciplinary team across DHU Healthcare Urgent Treatment Centres, supporting the delivery of essential POCT equipment and services 24/7.
The role involves maintaining, troubleshooting and calibrating POCT instruments, managing consumables, delivering training and ensuring quality assurance processes are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day support and troubleshooting for POCT equipment including blood analysers, glucose devices, urinalysis and pregnancy tests.
- Assist in management of ordering, replenishment, storage and documentation of all POCT equipment and consumables.
- Conduct equipment assurance checks, calibration and internal and external quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) processes as per schedule.
- Perform validation and verification of new or replacement equipment for projects and developments.
- Deliver user training for clinical staff and maintain training records.
- Prepare and record QC and QA documentation, audit findings and action plans.
- Report missing or damaged equipment and coordinate with manufacturers for repair or replacement.
- Attend operational and team meetings, share best practice and contribute to policy development.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and statutory requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum qualifications: 4 GCSEs grades A‑C (or equivalent) including English and Maths, NVQ Level 3 in Clinical Laboratory Support (or equivalent); preferred: foundation degree, IBMS Certificate of Achievement.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar POCT or laboratory support role, with demonstrable experience in POCT analyser management, training staff, audit, phlebotomy and communication with varied stakeholders.

- Full UK driving licence, with ability to travel between all UTC sites.
- Willingness and ability to work unsocial hours and flexible rosters.
- Acceptability of a Disclosure and Barring Service check and compliance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
