ALAS PMS Reconditioning Technican

This role is within the ALAS Posture and Mobility Service, based at Treforest Industrial Estate. The post holder will work as part of the Workshop Team and will be responsible for the repair, reconfiguration, and reconditioning of wheelchair equipment.

We are seeking two individuals who are self-motivated, well organised, and able to work effectively as part of a team. The successful candidates will be patient-focused, ensuring a high-quality service is delivered to service users at all times.

Essential requirements include knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, along with experience in the safe use of tools and equipment. Candidates must also have experience of working within a mechanical engineering environment and the ability to carry out routine maintenance, repairs, reconfiguration, and reconditioning tasks. A relevant trade qualification is desirable, along with a sound understanding of workshop procedures and safe working practices. The role is physically demanding; therefore, candidates must be fit and capable of lifting and manoeuvring heavy equipment. The ability to work on their own initiative and to manage workloads effectively would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job:

• Apply safe working practices in all working activities by following UHB safety policies and protocols.
• Actively participate in the operation of works information management systems by working within schemes and completing all relevant paperwork and computer-based records.
• Actively participate in the operation of planned preventative maintenance programmes.
• Perform work including activities which are complex and non-routine commensurate with the grade of the post.
• Repair, reconfigure and recondition wheelchair equipment, adapting standard seating as requested.
• Fit controllers, actuators and modules as necessary to fulfil prescription form.
• Fit and check batteries and wiring looms, including cables and components.
• Assist and liaise with other clinical/technical staff.
• Undertake unsupervised routine maintenance, repair, reconfiguring and reconditioning tasks.
• Requisition materials from stores.
• Use relevant tools and equipment as required by the work and follow guidance and settings specified in manufacture and user manuals.
• Drive vehicles and operate mobile plant and specific items of equipment.
• Carry out cleaning duties in workshop and plant areas as required.
• Undertake the moving of materials and wheelchairs.
