Role Overview
Assess, diagnose, treat or refer patients with a wide range of conditions in a triage setting.
Lead on safe, effective, evidence‑based care, conduct and interpret diagnostic investigations, liaison with specialist services, and maintain meticulous records in line with governance and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Practice autonomously, making confident clinical decisions and communicating them effectively to patients, carers and the team.
- Interpret and initiate appropriate diagnostic investigations, and provide relevant specialist advice.
- Ensure accurate, timely clinical documentation following current guidelines.
- Provide health‑promotion, accident‑prevention advice and promote safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
- Prescribe medication within the limits of non‑medical prescribing legislation, and manage medicines safely.
- Discharge or refer patients to internal or external pathways as required.
- Clinical Governance & Leadership
- Take part in clinical and quality audits, and contribute to the audit cycle.
- Participate in professional meetings, working groups and induction of new staff.
- Supervise, delegate and co‑ordinate staff, identifying and addressing performance issues.
- Advance service development, resource utilisation and nurse leadership initiatives.
- Mentor and support junior staff and students.
- Professional Standards
- Work within the regulatory requirements and professional standards of the NMC/HCPC/GPh C.
- Maintain clinical competence through ongoing continuing professional development.
- Act to promote public trust and uphold the reputation of DHU Health Care.
- Required Experience & Qualifications
- Registered with the
- NMC
- HCPC or
GPh C and an independent prescriber.
- Minimum of two Level7 modules, including clinical assessment skills, and experience in autonomous clinical decision‑making.
- Substantial experience in autonomous practice within a multi‑professional team (e. g. nurse‑led clinics, emergency care centres, out‑of‑hours or walk‑in services).
- Proven ability to conduct thorough clinical histories, physical examinations and formulate differential diagnoses.
- Demonstrated competence in telephone triage and independent prescribing.
