The Machine Operator plays an important part in making sure personalised orders are printed, put together, and sent out accurately and on time. Itâs a hands-on, dualâskilled role where youâll work across digital print production and automated inserting, matching printed card pages correctly, folding them, inserting them into envelopes, and preparing everything for dispatch. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with machinery, pays close attention to detail, and feels comfortable working in a fastâpaced production environment.
In this role, youâll operate our digital print equipment to produce personalised cards and related products, keeping a close eye on print quality throughout each run and making adjustments when needed. Youâll carry out routine checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance to keep the equipment running reliably, as well as setting up and operating auto inserter machines for card folding and envelope insertion. Accuracy is key, so youâll make sure printed card pages and envelopes are correctly matched using control sheets or barcode systems, adjust machine settings to maintain speed and quality, and confidently clear jams, identify faults, and escalate issues when required.
Youâll play an important part in quality control by making sure every order is complete, accurate, and meets Funky Pigeonâs standards. This means completing regular checks to prevent mismatches, missing inserts, or print defects, while helping to minimise rework, waste, and customer reprints. Youâll also follow all health and safety procedures and machine operating guidelines, keep your work area clean, organised, and safe, and handle paper stock, envelopes, and consumables with care.
- Youâll have a strong eye for detail, be comfortable following set processes, and work well to tight deadlines in a handsâon production environment.
- Youâll need to be confident operating machinery, carrying out repetitive tasks, and using basic IT systems such as job queues, monitors, or barcode/production software.
- Experience with digital printing, automated inserting or mailing equipment, personalised print workflows, or working during peak seasons would be an advantage.
- Youâre reliable, punctual, safetyâconscious, and able to stay calm under pressure.
- You enjoy working as part of a team, have a flexible âcanâdoâ approach, and are happy to learn multiple machines and rotate tasks.
- You take pride in producing highâquality work that customers will love.
- A positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn.
Shiftâbased role, Monday â Thursday 2.30 pm to 10.30 pm, Fridays off, Saturday 7.30 am to 1 pm, Sundays off. Flexibility required during peak periods (especially Christmas).
