Are you an experienced SHW professional with a background in marine construction or offshore wind? This is a great opportunity to support a major UK offshore wind development through a critical phase of seabed investigations.
You’ll join the client’s delivery team as their onshore SHW Advisor, ensuring safe and compliant delivery of a large geotechnical and geophysical survey campaign that will inform foundation locations, offshore substations and subsea cable routes for a new offshore wind farm.
The opportunity:
Working remotely with occasional office/offshore trips, you will act as the client’s SHW lead for the offshore survey programme. You’ll be the first point of contact for onboard client representatives and survey vessels, helping to make sure all activities are planned and delivered safely and in line with UK legislation and client standards.
This role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the operations, is comfortable challenging and coaching contractors, and can turn SHW data into meaningful insight for project leadership.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the client’s delivery team in achieving compliance with project SHW goals, company standards and UK statutory requirements for offshore works.
- Review pre-project documentation, including contractor RAMS and SHW plans, ensuring alignment with CDM and client duties.
- Assist with vessel inspections, mobilisations and crew changes from an SHW perspective, ensuring safe onboarding and handover processes.
- Attend daily survey calls, providing SHW input and raising any emerging risks or trends.
- Act as the client’s SHW focal point for the offshore survey programme, building strong relationships with vessel crews, client reps and marine coordination.
- Actively monitor site / vessel health and safety performance, undertaking observations and walkabouts and working with contractors to implement improvements.
- Prepare and/or review SHW reports and documentation, including accident/incident and high-potential event investigations, near-miss reports and safety observations, internal audits and survey campaign SHW performance reports (daily/weekly/monthly as required).
- Lead or support incident investigations, identify root causes and formally communicate lessons learned across the project team.
- Monitor contractor safety observation data and assist with trend analysis, providing feedback and recommendations.
- Develop and run SHW drills and exercises with contractors, following up on any improvement actions.
- Positively influence the culture on board and across the project, promoting proactive reporting, open communication and “stop work” authority.
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
- Proven experience in an SHW / HSE Advisor role within wind or marine construction.
- Strong working knowledge of UK SHW legislation and CDM Regulations in a client / principal contractor context.
- Formal HSE qualification (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent).
- Experience reviewing RAMS and SHW documentation for offshore operations.
- Demonstrable experience of incident and near-miss investigation and reporting.
- Comfortable engaging with offshore crews, client reps and contractors – able to challenge and coach in a constructive way.
- Excellent written skills for reports, statistics and trend analysis.
