We're supporting a leading defence engineering organisation in the search for an experienced Network Engineer to join their established Network Operations team on a 12-month contract basis.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a highly secure, complex enterprise environment, supporting critical network infrastructure across multiple UK sites while contributing to ongoing network improvement and security initiatives.

The Role

As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for providing dedicated support to the Stevenage site while helping maintain and enhance network services across the wider UK estate. Working closely with internal technical teams, security specialists and external suppliers, you will play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance and security of business-critical network services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing operational support for enterprise network infrastructure across multiple sites.
  • Investigating, owning and resolving network-related issues and risks.
  • Supporting network improvement projects and wider business initiatives.
  • Working closely with security teams on network reporting, risk analysis and compliance activities.
  • Collaborating with service management teams to ensure agreed service levels are met.
  • Supporting secure network environments, including crypto solutions and associated technologies.
  • Maintaining network documentation and operational processes.
  • Liaising with third-party vendors and technology partners to optimise service delivery.

Required Experience

We're keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Experience within secure or highly regulated network environments, including crypto technologies.
  • Good knowledge of Cisco technologies, including Catalyst Centre and ISE.
  • Strong understanding of routing, switching and networking fundamentals (OSI, OSPF, BGP, HSRP, VRRP, TCP/IP).
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Linux/RHEL and VMware.
  • Exposure to SDA, authentication services and network security.
  • Experience using monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG or Nagios.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
