Job Purpose
Responsible for reconciling payroll control and suspense accounts, ensuring accurate payroll payments to HMRC and third parties, resolving discrepancies, managing overpayments, and supporting payroll compliance and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile payroll control and suspense accounts against finance reports.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and processing errors.
- Ensure accurate payroll payments to HMRC and third-party agencies.
- Manage payroll overpayments, BACS recalls, and pension contribution recoveries.
- Support month-end and year-end payroll processes and audits.
- Produce journals, financial reports, and payroll adjustment data.
- Work closely with Payroll, Finance, and Pensions teams to improve processes and controls.
- Maintain compliance with payroll legislation, policies, and internal procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant.
- Strong experience in payroll/accounts reconciliation and year-end processes.
- Experience within Payroll or Finance functions in large organisations.
- Good understanding of payroll legislation and payroll accounting.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
Desirable
- Experience using Oracle HR/Payroll systems.
- Experience within Higher Education or similar sectors.
