Overview
We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support the delivery, deployment and ongoing support of a modern hosting and infrastructure platform within a secure defence environment. Working as part of a collaborative technical team, you will play a key role in building, deploying and supporting enterprise infrastructure services while ensuring a high standard of service delivery. This role is primarily based onsite in Portsmouth, with occasional travel required for installation and deployment activities across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, deploy and support enterprise infrastructure platforms.
- Administer VMware hosted services and virtual environments.
- Provide 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support for infrastructure services.
- Support and maintain Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory environments.
- Configure and manage Dell server hardware and iDRAC.
- Maintain technical and operational documentation.
- Support asset management, logistics and supplier engagement activities.
- Participate in ITIL-based change management processes.
- Work closely with project and operational teams to deliver infrastructure services.
- Support onsite installation and deployment activities when required.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong experience administering VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments.
- Good working knowledge of VMware vCenter 7.0 or later.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server 2019/2022.
- Strong Active Directory administration experience.
- Knowledge of Dell server hardware and iDRAC management.
- Experience providing 2nd and 3rd line support within enterprise environments.
- Ability to maintain accurate technical documentation.
- Experience working within ITIL change management processes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Desirable Skills
- Experience using Remedy.
- Office automation and documentation management skills.
- Experience supporting IT services within defence, maritime or secure environments.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Strong stakeholder management and supplier engagement skills.
Qualifications
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- Microsoft certification (MCSA or equivalent preferred).
- VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) certification desirable.
Security Requirements
