Instrument Technician

Location: Southampton ( Needs to be local)

Rate: £35-£40 per hour Self Employed

Hours: 38 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Overtime: Time and a half & double time available

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Instrument Technician to carry out maintenance work on a oil and gas project. This role involves the inspection, calibration, fault-finding, and maintenance of instrumentation systems to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance on instrumentation systems.
  • Inspect, calibrate, and repair flow, pressure, temperature, and level control instruments.
  • Troubleshoot faults and system failures to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety regulations and site procedures.
  • Work closely with engineers and site teams to maintain high safety and performance standards.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Recognised Instrumentation / Electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent).
  • COMPEX certification (advantageous).
  • Previous experience working in a refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of hazardous area classifications and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and P&IDs.
