An established electricity transmission organisation is seeking a Substation (HV Primary Plant) Engineer to join its multi-disciplinary Project Engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work on major high-voltage substation projects that support large-scale renewable integration and contribute to the UK's Net Zero ambitions. You will play a key part in the development and delivery of new build and asset replacement projects across the transmission network, operating at voltages of up to 400kV.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop outline engineering scopes, site location plans, primary plant layouts, and Single Line Diagrams for high-voltage substation projects.
  • Review and assure detailed designs produced by contractors and consultants.
  • Witness Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.
  • Apply safety-by-design principles to identify, mitigate, and control engineering and construction risks.
  • Provide technical support to site and operational teams, ensuring high-quality installations while maintaining network security.
  • Evaluate tenders and support the procurement, management, and coordination of specialist engineering services.

About You

You will be an experienced electrical engineer with a strong understanding of transmission systems and project delivery environments. You are confident in identifying critical issues and influencing project teams to achieve safe, high-quality outcomes. You will ideally have:

  • A strong awareness of transmission engineering functions, project governance, and regulatory obligations.
  • Knowledge of key legislation affecting transmission assets and projects, including CDM Regulations and Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in complex, fast-paced project environments.
  • Strong communication skills, with a diligent and organised approach to managing priorities.
  • A degree or HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Chartered Engineer status, or active progress toward professional accreditation, is desirable.
