This is a hybrid position combining leadership, technical operations, and service delivery in a mission-critical environment. You’ll oversee day-to-day data centre operations across multiple sites, ensuring 100% uptime while leading a small, high-performing technical team. You’ll be equally comfortable managing people and processes as you are rolling up your sleeves — supporting installs, structured cabling, client visits, and vendor coordination. This is a client-facing, predominantly on-site role with occasional participation in an on-call rota.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Operations & Support
- Resolve hardware, network, and system issues both remotely and on-site
- Perform diagnostics, updates, and maintenance on servers, switches, and other infrastructure
- Rack and stack equipment, patch cabling, and perform audits across all sites
- Provide “remote hands” services for clients and partners
- Manage a queue of technical service requests and ensure timely resolution
- Lead, mentor, and develop junior technicians
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes and documentation
- Liaise directly with clients and internal stakeholders to uphold SLAs and service excellence
- Host site tours and support onboarding of new deployments
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors and service engineers
- Infrastructure Management & Compliance
- Monitor site performance and proactively identify risks or issues
- Maintain documentation, change logs, and health & safety procedures
- Participate in after-hours incident response and on-call rotation
- Systems Administration
- Provide basic administration of systems such as Active Directory, endpoint protection, and ITSM tools
- Support AV and meeting technology in site offices as required
- Perform equipment and license audits for compliance and asset tracking
- At least 8+ years’ experience in IT support, data centre, or colocation environments
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills (hardware, networks, remote support)
- Experience managing service queues and prioritising critical incidents
- Proven leadership or team mentorship experience
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills — you’ll represent Carbon3AI on-site
- Knowledge of structured cabling standards and data centre safety practices
- CompTIA certifications (A+, Network+, Server+), ITIL Foundation
- Experience installing and supporting Nvidia or AMD GPUs
- Prior experience in modular, edge, or sustainable data centre environments
- Familiarity with DCIM tools and monitoring platforms
- IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar (degree or equivalent experience)
- Must be located in the UK and able to travel regularly to various sites across the UK.
