Responsibilities

  • Trading & Optimisation
    • Execute short-term trading and imbalance management strategies
    • Forecast forward power prices and support import and export trading decisions
    • Optimise flexible assets across OTC, balancing, and ancillary services markets
    • Monitor market conditions and adjust positions to manage risk and maximise value
  • Analytics & AI Enablement
    • Analyse market and operational data to support trading and optimisation
    • Develop and maintain pricing, forecasting, and asset optimisation models
    • Contribute to the use of AI as a decision-support tool for forecasting and analytics
  • Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Produce clear reporting on trading performance, imbalance costs, and optimisation outcomes
    • Provide insight to senior leadership and the wider business
    • Act as a key interface between the Energy team and operational asset teams
  • Governance & Contracts
    • Ensure compliance with trading governance and regulatory requirements
    • Support contract review and negotiation for power and energy agreements
    • Assess charging structures and tariffs to optimise commercial outcomes
  • Team Contribution
    • Support wider business activities including forward strategy, systems, and data
    • Contribute to knowledge sharing and development within the team

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience in an energy or commodities trading environment
  • Experience trading power, including import and export positions
  • Strong understanding of short-term trading, imbalance management, and optimisation
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret large data sets
  • Ability to communicate complex information to senior and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with flexible assets or generation portfolios
  • Programming or advanced analytics skills (Python, SQL, VBA)
  • Interest in applying AI and machine learning to trading and analytics
