Laboratory Technician Apprentice

Impellam Group is looking for a driven and curious individual to join us as a Laboratory Technician Apprentice. You'll earn a competitive salary while gaining hands‑on experience in a modern, cutting‑edge lab - and work towards a nationally recognised Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship, delivered by Tiro Training Ltd.

The role

Working From Our State‑of‑the‑art Facility At Lion Works, Whittlesford (just a Short Walk From Whittlesford Parkway Station, With Easy Links To Cambridge And London), Your Day‑to‑day Will Include

  • Helping keep the labs safe, clean, and well‑stocked
  • Preparing scientific materials such as buffers, media, and agar plates
  • Tracking lab consumables and managing deliveries
  • Supporting scientific teams with research activities
  • Assisting with lab equipment maintenance, records, and safety protocols
  • Playing a key role in smooth day‑to‑day lab operations

What you'll gain

Over the two-year programme you'll develop practical, real‑world lab skills including health & safety compliance, sample preparation, use of specialist instruments and equipment, data recording and basic statistical analysis, and use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) - building a strong foundation for a career in STEM.

Hours & details

  • Wage: £26,000 a year
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 9.00am-5.00pm (1-hour break) - 37 hours 30 minutes/week
  • Start date: Tuesday 1 December 2026
  • Duration: 2 years
  • Positions available: 1
  • Training provider: Tiro Training Ltd

What we're looking for

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE English (grade 4-9)
  • GCSE Maths (grade 4-9)
  • GCSE Science (grade 4-9)
  • A Level in a Scientific subject (Other relevant qualifications or industry experience welcomed - the programme can flex to reflect what you already know.)

Skills & Qualities

Communication, attention to detail, organisation, problem-solving, analytical thinking, teamwork, initiative, and curiosity about how science works.
