An established UK transmission operator is seeking a Cable Project Engineer to join a multi‑disciplinary engineering team delivering major infrastructure and energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide cable engineering input across multiple projects, including outline cable system design, technology option assessments, underground route selection, and current rating calculations (CYMCAP).
  • Support projects through the full lifecycle from concept and design to construction, installation, commissioning, and handover.
  • Participate in and support risk and safety sessions including HAZID, HAZCON and HAZOP.
  • Develop technical scopes and specifications for new and modified underground cable systems.
  • Review contractor and consultant detailed designs, prequalification and type test documentation.
  • Witness factory acceptance testing (FAT) and relevant site acceptance testing.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, CDM Regulations, ESQCR, and wider HSE legislation, embedding safety by design.

Requirements

  • Degree‑qualified in a relevant engineering discipline; Chartered or working toward chartership preferred.
  • Proven experience working on transmission or major infrastructure projects with strong knowledge of high‑voltage cable systems.
  • Experience supporting multi‑disciplinary engineering teams across complex project environments.
  • Strong understanding of legislative, regulatory, and safety requirements impacting transmission networks.
  • Clear technical communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
