The Opportunity: The Finance Analyst will provide broad-based support across the finance function of the Carbon Group, covering transactional finance, management reporting, and financial analysis. Carbon is a rapidly evolving environment which creates a dynamic environment for future career development and opportunities. The role is hands-on and varied, supporting day-to-day finance operations (including banking, AP/AR, expenses, and payroll) while contributing to management accounts, budgeting, and regulatory reporting.
The Role:
- Finance Operations & Team Support: Provide support across the entire finance team, assisting with day-to-day accounting and finance operations. Assist with bank account management, including Barclays bank accounts, bank reconciliations, and cash monitoring. Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment runs, and credit control activities. Manage and monitor corporate credit cards and employee expense processes, ensuring compliance with company policy. Support expense management systems and processes, including reconciliations and reporting.
- Management Accounts & Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations. Support month-end close processes and provide analysis on variances and performance. Produce management information to support business and underwriting decision-making.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Support the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes. Assist with tracking actual performance against budget and preparing variance analysis.
- Tax, Payroll & Statutory Support: Support tax processes, including VAT returns and liaison with external advisors. Assist with payroll processes, including data preparation, reconciliations, and postings. Support statutory reporting and audit processes by preparing schedules and analysis.
- Lloyd's & Regulatory Reporting: Assist Carbon finance team in reviewing and analysing financial information produced by external Managing Agent. Support with provision of Syndicate data for year-end audit requirements.
- Systems, Controls & Process Improvement: Support finance systems, including SAP and banking platforms. Assist with process improvements and automation initiatives across finance operations. Help maintain strong financial controls and adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Skills & Experience:
- Essential: Part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or studying towards qualification. Experience in a finance analyst or finance operations role, ideally within insurance or financial services. Exposure to transactional finance processes including AP, AR, expenses, and bank reconciliations. Strong Excel skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Desirable: Experience within the Lloyd's market or general insurance. Experience with SAP and Barclays banking platforms. Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
Personal Attributes: Hands-on, flexible, and willing to support across the finance team. Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Clear communicator able to work with finance and non-finance stakeholders. Curious and inquisitive. Keen to develop technical and commercial finance skills within the Lloyd's market.
