The Opportunity
We are searching for a proactive, enthusiastic and ambitious Risk Manager to join our team. Reporting to our Head of Risk & Compliance, this role provides a great opportunity for someone looking to take that next step in their career and help us to build out our risk framework and embed this within our culture at Carbon. We are looking for someone who is willing to take the lead, provide challenge and contribute ideas to improve our risk and compliance function. Carbon is an entrepreneurial, dynamic company, so there will always be the opportunity to work on wider company projects.
Key responsibilities:
- Taking ownership of and overseeing Carbon’s Risk Management Framework.
- Providing challenge on the first line processes and functions within the business on key risks.
- Providing independent review and challenge of processes, governance and controls.
- Conducting regular risk workshops with business units to manage identified risks and to ensure that emerging risks are considered.
- Carrying out risk assessments on company projects and initiatives.
- Working closely with risk and control owners as well as other stakeholders, both internal and external, to maintain a healthy risk culture.
- Managing the MGA and Syndicate risk registers, ensuring they are reviewed and updated regularly and reflect an accurate view of the business.
- Conducting regular risk and control assessments, identifying control weaknesses and working with the business to ensure appropriate actions are in place and managed well.
- Ensuring risk events and emerging risks are captured and updated appropriately.
- Follow up promptly with owners on any agreed actions.
- Identifying emerging risks, both within the industry and external, that could have an impact on Carbon’s business and operations.
- Co-ordinate and manage stress and scenario testing.
- Setting, monitoring and reporting on risk appetites and any breaches.
- Working with Carbon’s Managing Agency and internal stakeholders to provide input for the annual Own Risk & Solvency Assessment (ORSA).
- Producing reports for various Board and Committee meetings.
- Confidently presenting risk updates to the Underwriting Committee and the Risk and Compliance Committee.
- Providing risk management training to the business as well as ongoing technical and analytical support.
- Assisting with the placement of Carbon’s corporate insurances.
Skills and experience:
Essential:
- Proven insurance experience within the Lloyd’s market.
- ORSA experience.
- Experience of risk reporting to Committees & Boards.
- Experience of business partnering and working closely with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable:
- Managing risk for various entities/distribution models in one organisation.
- Delegated authority underwriting.
- IRM risk management qualifications.
- Management experience and recognise the importance of embracing modern technology to deeply enrich our offering.
