Design and develop: Create innovative mechanical designs for products, components, or systems using CAD software and engineering best practices.

Feasibility analysis: Evaluate the feasibility of design ideas and concepts based on factors such as cost, manufacturing limitations, and material properties.

Materials selection: Select appropriate materials for mechanical systems and components based on factors such as strength, weight, durability, and cost.

Engineering calculations: Perform complex engineering calculations, such as stress analysis, thermal analysis, and rotordynamics to optimise designs and ensure the reliability and safety of mechanical systems.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams: Work closely with other engineers, technicians, and manufacturing personnel to ensure that designs are manufacturable and meet project requirements. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and site maintenance teams. Lead failure analysis investigations (RCA) and recommend corrective actions. Provide technical assistance in the installation, commissioning, and startup of rotating equipment.

Documentation and communication: Create and maintain accurate design documentation, specifications, and design reports. Communicate design concepts and technical information to colleagues and stakeholders.

Continuous improvement: Stay up to date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the design process.

To be successful in this role, you should have a combination of the below knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in same preferred.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in rotating equipment design and development.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of engineering calculations, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and rotordynamics.
  • Strong knowledge of vibration analysis, lubrication, bearing systems, Mechanical Seal / seal plans and condition monitoring techniques.
  • Experience in materials selection and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in representing the rotating team in Design FMEA and HAZOP reviews.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to rotating equipment.
  • Act as the Lead Engineer on projects, making technical decisions on rotating equipment design and may be responsible for a small team of engineers.
