The Product Engineering Manager will be technically responsible for the Engineering work on Product development activities by identifying required resources, supervising and directing preparation of Project deliverables. Oversee, understand and record the technical differences between Carbon Clean’s Product. Contributes to the development of Project Charters, reviewing the execution strategy to ensure they are viable from an Engineering perspective, and defining required deliverables.
Manage and lead a team of multi-discipline Engineering (internal and external) resources to co-ordinate production of Engineering deliverables in accordance with the Project Charter. Review and provide Quality Assurance of the Engineering phase deliverables, and ensure that HSE is always at the forefront of the technical design. Co-ordinate and formulate resolutions to technically challenging and/or high-profile issues with support from discipline Engineering and effective communication with Technology and Product Management, subcontractors and senior management.
Monitor the Engineering progress and address shortfalls, developing recovery plans where required and ensuring plans are implemented. Provides feedback to Project Managers and Engineering discipline supervisors as and when required of progress. Ensuring Lessons Learnt / Our Work Leveraged (OWL) occurs at appropriate milestones during project life cycle, and that lessons are implemented in future projects.
Prepare/reviews resource planning estimates and provides input to the project delivery. Identify a clear scope of work and supervises preparations of the Master Document Register (MDR). Responsible for planning/scheduling all Engineering activities and resource planning apart from RPB led projects. Quantifies the total number of Engineering deliverables, resource allocation and format of delivery and other requirements for execution of the work. Provides necessary regular Project controls/reporting input.
Responsible for developing the Basis of Design (BOD) for D&D projects, co-ordinating with all engineering disciplines. Responsible for developing and maintaining Technical Risk Registers (TRR), including closure of actions, and communicating risks to the Product Manager. Also responsible for the technical inputs on the project decision register.
Works with the Product Manager to develop the Verification and Validation (V&V) plan, to ensure the product is built correctly and meets its intended purpose. Oversight of approval and release of all Engineering deliverables ensuring appropriate levels of checking, approval and quality across all disciplines. Responsible for approving disciplines that don’t currently have three responsibility grades (e.g. non-Process).
Ensure compatibility and conformance with Product Must Have List / Product requirements in the Project Charter and recommends cost effective improvements to equipment selection/specifications within the scope of Product requirements. Utilise experience to input to Engineering and wider Carbon Clean team to improve current/future performance – be part of our continuous improvement expertise. Building trusted and credible working relationships both within and outside the company. Keeping Director of D&D informed on progress of Feature development, co-ordinating D&D Engineering resources for execution of Feature development.
Requirements
- Engineering Degree level qualification, ideally in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (Preferred).
- Excellent understanding of the multidisciplinary Engineering involved in process plant (e.g gas processing) design, fabrication, and operations.
- Experienced in the integration of occupational and process safety management into design, fabrication, and operations.
- Experience in an Engineering supervisory/management role, managing both teams of Engineers and external contractors.
- Comfortable leading and managing an experienced team of discipline Engineers.
- Experienced working with budgets, including demonstrable involvement in budget control.
- Ability to train team members in new skills and competencies.
- Strong problem-solving skills, decision making, whilst being proactive in achieving positive results.
- Experience of working in plant operations or interfacing with operations personnel through design in the process industry.
- Good leadership experience is essential.
